This trendy, artsy neighborhood bordering the performance halls of Civic Center, has plenty of well-liked cocktail lounges and restaurants sprinkled around flat streets, making it a pedestrian magnet. Since having completely reinvented itself following the teardown of the Central Freeway overpass, Hayes Valley enjoys more than its fair share of sunshine, pop up shops, a pocket park, beer garden and handmade ice cream parlor. Public transportation is a breeze, but parking is tight.
