North Beach

The sidewalk café culture is as European as most American cities get, and both residents and tourists seem to appreciate it hugely. The 19th century Little Italy influence is palpable in the neighborhood’s food and drink offerings; the mid-20th century influence dates to when City Lights Bookstore was the epicenter of the Beat Generation. North Beach is nestled against both Chinatown and the Financial District, with picturesque Washington Square Park at its center, leading to the steps of Saints Peter and Paul Church.
