Russian Hill

Russian Hill is located to the north of Nob Hill. Russian Hill was named for the 1800s discovery of a small Russian cemetery at the top of the hill. Perched on one of the highest hills in San Francisco, Russian Hill is most famous for Lombard Street’s switch back design that was created to avoid the 27% grade. Many tourists drive down the “world’s crookedest street” to experience the eight hairpin turns.
